MUSINGS OF A PROFESSIONAL DREAMER

It’s been two wild months and almost 10,000km of fighting since my last confession.

From Cape Town to George to Port Elizabeth to East London to Joburg to Grahamstown to Knysna to Cape Town to Durban to Cape Town to Joburg… I’ve performed at sold out events, I’ve performed to (less than) a handful of people, I’ve booked shows, I’ve cancelled shows, I’ve played festivals and I’ve found a new (and sometimes cheekier) version of myself on stage. I’ve laughed and cried and experienced new things. I wrote an article for Rolling Stone that surprised a lot of people. I signed to Peer Music, released a new radio single, redesigned my website, and I’ve dreamed a whole lot more. And I’ve driven. A lot.

I’ve just started a tour as the support artist for Dan Patlansky’s first national acoustic tour “STRIPPED!”. Dan is a blues legend and if you haven’t already seen this man play, where have you been?! His acoustic set is really something special and I’m honoured to be onboard for what is already proving to be an epic tour. I was sitting backstage at the first show in Centurion last week, listening to Dan expertly rip the soul out of his guitar in one of those “why music was created in the first place” kind of ways, and I couldn’t help smiling. It was one of those moments that reminded me why I love what I do. Aside from being my first tour in over 6 years that involves other human beings, which is so refreshing after touring alone for so long, the reception to my set has been overwhelming. Most of all, I’m enjoying just being a musician for a change. So much of my life is spent booking tours, promoting, planning and selling, that I’m finding it a little difficult to enjoy the ride without worrying about the inevitable reality that awaits me on the other side, but I’m determined to find my off button. I know it’s here somewhere.

Aside from this new collab tour, there are some uber exciting things bubbling under the surface, like new websites and radio singles, but more about that later. For now, it’s all about the open road and just being an artist. And I’m living the dream in rock ‘n roll style in my new home-away-from-home too, thanks to the epic tour support from Holiday Inn Express. My bed makes itself every day, and they have bacon for breakfast and pillows from heaven. They are the reason I’m still sane and I’m uber stoked to be associated with such an epic brand. It’s been a crazy whirlwind of a never-ending tour and I’m not sure it ends any time soon. But that’s kinda why I love what I do. It certainly does keep me out of trouble. Mostly.
